How To: Master Your Boho Style

Our fashion sense tends to be an extension of ourselves, it is an extension of the thoughts and personality we put into finding the perfect dress or the perfect handbag. We are free and we are inspired, there is a fire in our hearts and when we walk around we shine. Within every one of us there is a desire to feel this freedom, we yearn and long for it with a passion and what better way to be bold than to unleash our inner bohemian style? This hippie-gypsy inspired fashion has become one of the hottest trends today, as it is more than just a style, it is an extension of our personalities, our lust for life. Whether you are new to the boho chic look or have been flaunting it for awhile, it’s time to truly master your inner boho, from the rich colors and fabrics to the must have accessories. This versatile style will never disappoint, during summer, work days or night life you will never have a dull day. What sets boho apart from other types of trends is that it is about the individual, it gives us each a sense of our own individuality, our own expression and our own voice. In some ways it is rebellious, it goes against the normal, it paves a path into uncharted territory, it says- we are strong, we are free and we are individuals. Life is too short not to embrace your inner boho, so let’s break down some of the key elements to this artistic style and bring out the boho chic in you.

The key to mastering boho is to layer your clothes with vests and oversized pattern scarves, remember, details make all the difference. Some great layering options are vests, cardigans and kimonos. Of course, the possibilities are endless but remember the key is to bring out your hippie spirit, be creative and aim for that natural beauty. Go for more earthy tones, paisley, tie die and Aztec inspired pants, this will give your outfit a more organic feel. The goal is to seek out bold patterns, geometric eye catching prints that can be paired with an earthy colored blouse, cardigan or whatever your heart desires.

Another staple is the flowing maxi dress that is either off the shoulder or has flowing sleeves. What makes the maxi dress so popular is it truly unleashes the hippie spirit, aim for bold rich colors. For a more minimalist look, the boho style also offers pencil skirts, which are office ready and can be paired with a ruffled blouse. In addition, the flare pants are another great option and when paired with a heel boot they look both sexy and sophisticated.

One of the most exciting parts of shopping is finding the right jewelry to pair with an outfit. Being a boho chic means a never ending array of jewelry, the bracelets, necklaces and earrings that are eclectic and bold. Mix and match your jewelry, in this style less is not more, wear thick bracelets, flowing necklaces and long statement earrings. Adding this to your outfit adds to the layering effect of the boho chic style, it will have you feeling and sending the boho vibe wherever you go.

Lastly, don’t forget your accessories, as they are a boho chic must and will finish your hippie gypsy style. Top off your outfit with head wrap or hairband, or a floppy brimmed hat. Purse wise, cross body bags, oversized purse or canvas messenger bags are the most popular choices. Then, for sunglasses aim for a cat eye, aviator, or wayfarer style, choose the one that fits your personality and outfit the best. Finally, as far as shoes go, neutral colored ankle boots are essential, these will go with nearly every boho outfit you put together.

There are no limits with bohemian style, it is versatile, fun and bold. It is an extension of how we feel inside, it shows the world that we are daring, we are free and we are alive. To some extent we are what we wear, it is an artistic expression, it is freedom. Have fun, be free, be wild, be an individual, master your inner boho.

Out With The Old In With The New-Choosing The Best Bralette For You

Out With The Old In With The New-Choosing The Best Bralette For You

We all know the feeling, matching the perfect top with the right bra, or scavenging to find the right bra for the sexy backless dress we have had in our closets for a year. The task seems impossible, almost like a fashion mission we just haven’t been able to conquer. After trying on every bra in your drawer with your special outfit you feel hopeless and exhausted, why is there not a single bra that works with this outfit? Fear not fashion warriors, we don’t give up quite that easy, the problem is not your taste, it’s not your outfit, it is the wrong bra. I introduce to you the easy button to your fashion problems, perhaps the most sexy and stylish accessory that also provides support-the bralette. The bralette has become the queen of fashion and not by chance, as it has become one of the hottest styles for many good reasons. Of course, a bralette may seem like a lesser version of a bra, however, while it still may not offer as much support as a regular bra, it offers enough and comes in lace, mesh, high neck and criss-cross designs. Depending on the outfit you want to wear, there is a bralette that will work for you, regardless of your bust size, there is a size and style that will offer enough support. It’s time to embark on a bralette journey and learn how to find the right one for you and the next time you put on that cute outfit- it will be stress free.

Of course, as we know there is nothing quite as satisfying as pulling off the perfect outfit, we feel as though we are in the spotlight all night(and usually we are). Incorporating a bralette into your outfit gets rid of the fear of finding the ‘right’ bra to wear with your dress, tank top, scoop neck or v-neck. At first, it may seem confusing to choose the right bralette, sizing is the best place to start. Generally, bralettes will range from XS to XL,the most important starting point is finding your size. The method to measuring for your size is fairly simple, all you need is a cloth tape and you’re ready. Start off with a bust measurement, this is the fullest part of the bust, make sure the tape is parallel to the ground and snug but not too tight. For example, if your bust measures 36.5” round up to 37. Next, find your band measurement, wrap the tape around the chest, just above where the bust and straps meet(make sure the tape is flat against your back). If you measure 35” in this area, round down to 34” for the best fit. Using these measurements you will be able to find the perfect size that fits comfortably and accommodates your outfit.

Now that we have the sizing down it is time to ask yourself what type of look you are going for. There are many types of bralettes to choose from, some are cute, some sexy and others are a bit more modest. For example, a halter bralette compliments a halter neckline, which delivers an attractive, sexy style. On the other

hand a racerback accommodates a scoop neck, deep tee or tank top. If you plan on going out for a night on the town in  that backless dress you could never find a bra for, you may want to go with the criss-cross bralette, which will look absolutely stunning. Another very popular style is the lace racerback, this will accent your tank tops in a completely different way. Of course, it may sound as though there are an overwhelming number of options, however, it is all very simple to break down, there is lace, mesh and criss-cross and many different patterns available for any outfit of your choice.

Lastly, it is important to choose the fabric and fit that fuels your fashion ambition. Currently, lace is the most popular option as it creates a more sexy feminine look, some are sheer lace, while others have trims of lace. This is the perfect choice to wear under a gown or a shirt. Also, there is a cotton choice, for a more casual and simplistic look and is great for workout clothing as well. For a more flirty night the neckline design is an excellent way to draw attention to your chest, as well as pair with a see through top.

Fashion is meant to be fun, to be daring, to be a new experience, we accessorize, we are passionate about it and we never stop pushing the limits. It’s time to pull out the clothes from the closet that we retired because not a single bra we owned worked with them. It is time to put them on and have a night out on the town, this time flaunting your bralette, this time pushing the limits of fashion, creating your own look, you have no restraints. This is why the bralette is one of the most popular and useful accessories of our time, it is what we ladies have all been waiting for-so go rock that outfit.

Basically, Let’s go Back to Basics

Basically, Let’s go Back to Basics

We always want to know the style secrets of our favourite celebs and fashion icons. What’s one of the first questions we’d ask them? ‘What’s a staple in your wardrobe?’ or ‘what piece of clothing could you not live without?’. Whilst there’s usually some fabrication or mention to that beloved sequin cocktail dress or croc patent heels, or even some more honest, simple answers; my comfy loafers or boyfriend jeans, let’s not forget to go back to basics.

At Seaside Boutique we have a whole range of basics that go perfectly with our other pieces and no doubt a lot of things already hanging in your wardrobe! How often do you pick a hanger out of your closet and think ‘I’d love to wear this!’ then retract as you realise whatever are you going to pair with it? Enter basics.

Back to Basics

As we state on our ‘Basics’ page our basics are our relaxed line of ‘easygoing essentials’. We stock simple tees to maxi dresses. Take our Angie Racerback Cami in Red for example. The racerback giving a simple twist to the cami and drawing in on that prominent sports luxe trend. This is a perfect wardrobe addition for everyone.

Simple Bold Colors

You can easily pull this on when you want to wear a bold pattern on the bottom – I’m thinking something like our Printed Maxi Skirt or Boho Palazzo Pants. Simple bold colours are great to wear on top when the bottom half of your getup is making a statement. What’s more a great excuse to buy another new pair of shoes in a bold red to match – heels count as basics too right?

Tapestry and Patchwork Bags

And what about all those tapestry and patchwork bags you’re going to be buying this season? Shop ours in our Accessories range and check out an earlier blog post on the must-haves here. It’s all about boho again this summer and these statement patchwork and crochet bags need a simple canvas outfit to be thrown over. Our variety of swing dresses are perfect for this. We have a range of colours including grey, teal and blue so you can find something that works with your personal palette. Or picture our simple Kiara Maxi Dress in a gorgeous dusty plum colour with our multi Color Tapestry Tote. Perfect for casual summer days looking effortlessly cool.

Basically, basics offer a base so that you can play with your patterns and accessories. They are the best way to experiment with your style and you will always have something to pair your current pieces with! Shop our Basics now!

That Seaside Seventies Style

That Seaside Seventies Style

Back in 2011 Christopher Kane did something with a lot of crochet – yeah you remember? And well seventies revival just seems to have stuck. We started to see low hemlines skirt the floor, everything in A-line and don’t even get me started on paisley. Now we’re seeing knitted cropped tops and bell bottoms and it doesn’t seem to be going anywhere. The seventies are here to stay. Are you in?

At Seaside Boutique we have some laidback pieces that fit right in with the seventies trend. We love the casual frills and flowing, wide sleeves that compliment our cool LA style. Here are a few of our fashion seventies picks. Get out your record player (or your dad’s), stick some ABBA on and have a read.

Bell Sleeve Cold Shoulder Top

Get ahead of the S/S16 trend and pre-order our Cold Shoulder Top! The loose cut gives it a laidback feel that any item needs to possess for the seventies look. However, it’s those frilled bell sleeves that really take us right back to the seventies. This is such an easy piece to dress up or down. Pair it with some skinny jeans – or denim flares – and some killer platforms. Add some statement earrings and wear your hair loose. You don’t have to give this outfit a second thought.

V-Neck Peasant Top

If you’re looking to make more of a seventies statement, then you need a bold pattern. Our Peasant Top is bang on trend in a fun tie-dye print that first became popular back in the sixties. The style takes inspiration from boho gypsy blouses that are perfect as the weather starts to get warmer. Pair them with some shorts to head down to the beach and maybe spin a few braids in your hair. Take a denim jacket to throw on as you welcome in those cool summer evenings.

Bellsleeve Crochet Top

You didn’t think we’d forget to talk about crochet did you? Crochet is one of the coveted seventies materials that designers are favouring again for 2016. Forget bell bottoms when we have the perfect Bellsleeve Crochet. Just like the Cold Shoulder Top you can wear this piece from day to night. It would look great with some denim shorts, round sunnies – think John Lennon – and a fun wedge for a casual day look. Carry the look to evening with a suede mini skirt. Suede is also super popular for the seventies look and is perfect for the transition from winter to spring. Don some knee high boots and you are ready for wherever the night takes you.

Summer is about relaxing, taking a break, having new experiences and having fun. How better to do this than journey back to the seventies. Let your hair down. Play with your wardrobe. Make it your own. The seventies is here for some fun!

Two New Brands You Should Know About

Two New Brands You Should Know About

Seaside Boutique was launched nearly 6 months ago and I am just now writing my first blog. Shame on me! Hopefully this will be one of many blogs that I will write so that you can gain some insight into many of the behind the scenes work that goes on. This journey has truly been a unique experience for me. I am extremely grateful to everyone that has helped me along the way!

So, without further ado, I am excited to tell you all about two new brands that I have discovered and have brought to Seaside. I am always on the hunt for new and trendy styles and occasionally get tired of ordering from the “usual” suspects. Don’t get me wrong, I love our designers and current brands but I think it is important to keep it fresh and give our customers the trendiest and most fashionable clothing that comes out of the LA fashion district.

One style that I knew was missing from the store was a collection of basics. T-shirts, tanks, lounge wear and comfort wear. Basics are great because you an dress then up but also lounge comfortably on the weekend.  Having said that, basics can be a bit tricky. I definitely didn’t want a brand that had a ‘cheap’ feel to it but I also wanted something affordable for everyone.

I then discovered Z supply. I know, I had not heard of them either, but there is a good reason for that. Z supply only distributes to small boutiques and many of us do not have access to boutique shopping like we do here in California.  After looking at their collection and feeling the clothing, I was very impressed with the quality and style. Their philosophy is based on the belief of simplicity, comfort and style. After researching the company, I learned that they supply their basics to many celebrities. How cool is that?

So yes, a T-shirt is $32.00, but I will tell you that these t-shirts and other basics have become my favorites. They don’t shrink and they look and feel great. The company updates their styles and colors regularly so you can be sure to stay on point when you invest in these basics. Since Z supply clothing is only distributed to boutiques you can rest assured, the girl next to you won’t have the same outfit. (The Pocket Tee is pictured above and The Symphony Dress is pictured to the Left)

If you are one of our customers who have already tried out our new basics, please leave a comment and let us know what you think.

The second company, Others Follow, is “inspired by sandy feet and salty air”. The clothing is fun, easy to wear and very versatile. Others Follow has the California bohemian vibe that I really enjoy. From free flowing tanks to cool festival favorites, each piece is versatile enough to go with you on any adventure. Others Follow has a complete line of clothing from Tops, Tanks, Dresses and Casual wear. They also only distributes to boutiques which keeps their clothing and styles unique. It's not everyday that you will run into this brand but what I have seen with their new Spring and Summer Collection, you will fall in love with them as I did.

There is a yearly Fashion Show in Las Vegas called Magic, which is the largest fashion marketplace showcasing the latest trends and apparel. From what I heard, Others Follow did REALLY well. I can't wait to introduce more items into our store as the season goes on and I hope you enjoy them as much as we do here at Seaside.
